Our mission is to honor Ethan's memory by providing direct financial assistance to support his passions, particularly golf, and contributing to organizations benefiting individuals with aortic diseases and bleeding disorders. We aim to inspire others to emulate Ethan's spirit of kindness and teamwork by awarding scholarships to those who exemplify these values.
Ethan Monshaugen was a vibrant, loving 16-year-old boy. He loved his family and friends. Ethan had 5 younger siblings, who he loved and supported. When Ethan was younger, he was found to have the bleeding disorder, von Willebrand’s disease. Due to the risk of injury, Ethan was no longer able to participate in hockey, a sport he loved. He continued to support his brothers in hockey though, and when he went to high school, he became the team manager of the Moorhead High School boys’ hockey team. He took great pride in his work and loved every minute he spent with his teammates and friends. He built many strong relationships during this time. Seeing his excitement when he came home from practices and games, talking about his friends and hockey, was such a joy to experience. Ethan was a talker and a storyteller, so every evening we had with him was so full of life and happiness.
When Ethan was around 11 years old, he was introduced to golf. He was excited to participate in a sport again and worked hard at learning how to golf. His hard work did not go unnoticed, and he was even the recipient of the “most improved” golf award one summer. Ethan was a member of the Moorhead Country Club and became a member of the Moorhead High School boys’ golf team. Unfortunately, golf was sidelined for a couple summers because Ethan tore his ACL two years in a row. He still loved the sport and was excited to start golfing again.
Ethan passed away unexpectedly from an aortic dissection when he was 16 years old. He had no symptoms or known risk factors. The loss of Ethan has left a great hole in the hearts of his family, friends, and community. Ethan had a strong faith, growing up attending St. Joseph’s Catholic School, and was a regular altar server. His love for Jesus was apparent and shaped who he was. He was kind, caring, witty, brave, and strong, among many other attributes. Our goal is to keep Ethan’s spirit and kind heart alive in the Fargo-Moorhead community by supporting the things he loved. Funds raised will benefit local youth sports and organizations providing education and advocacy for those with aortic diseases. Ethan was introduced to golf after being diagnosed with a bleeding disorder. We want to inspire other youth to find a passion for golf by providing access for those who may not otherwise have the chance to try the sport. We love and miss Ethan so much, but we look forward to continuing to support Ethan’s love and kindness through Ethan’s Heart. Thank you.
